MONTROZIER
A land of wide open spaces... A land of contrasts...
It's through woods and the Causses that we discover this commune where the locals are called the Rozimintiens(nes).
A territory between the escarpments of the Causse Comtal and the imposing wild nature of the Palanges forest.
To the south, the Palanges Massif is home to La Forêt des Palanges. One of the most beautiful in the Averyon department, wooded with sessile oaks, chestnut trees, beeches, and conifers covering approximately 3,300 hectares. Rich in semi-mountain flora, you can pick victorian garlic, royal fern, martagon and marsh lilies, sundew, lily of the valley, and many more. The Palanges Forest is also very popular with mushroom hunters, but shhhh, no one knows that!
To the north, lies the very arid limestone plateau of the Causse Comtal, listed as a Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic, and Floristic Interest.
The Causse Comtal is a natural wonder, a territory with a rich, rare, and fascinating archaeological past.
It is also home to many animal species.
A diversity of contrasting landscapes, ranging from dry grassland to lush grass and rocky plateaus.
The Causse Comtal is also a timeless escape, populated by ancient dry-stone buildings, walls, and numerous cazelles, small dry-stone huts that once housed shepherds. Several dolmens can also be seen there.
It is therefore in this town that we will make this stopover a superb experience! The Discovery Hiking Route takes you to a natural and family-friendly area, the Saint Hubert Animal Park.
It is in the Palanges forest, in a preserved place, on the edge of the forest, that we will camp.
Here, this family estate created more than 35 years ago, is more than 150 animals in semi-freedom. Deer, red deer, white, black and speckled fallow deer, and Corsican mouflons live together.
An unusual stopover that La Route Randonnée Découverte would like to share with these participants. With a very enjoyable program!
Lunch stop:
This Thursday, LRRD participants will stop at a most astonishing shaded area, a lake in the heart of the forest, called Lac des Bruyères. Here we will enjoy the peace and quiet of the place, in the heart of the Palanges forest. This body of water, surrounded by gorse and heather, is very popular with fishing enthusiasts.
And of course, we'll be staying with one of our partners, a local producer.
