Departure for Campagnac

Roaming 23 km - (Subject to change).

A timeless stage from the Lot valley to the causse.

Campanhac in Occitan is located in the heart of the Causse Aveyronnais between the Lot valley and the Gorges du Tarn. This commune is part of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park and the gentiles are called the Cabassols.

Located at an altitude of 729 meters, the Marmory de la Vigne and Nozeran streams, tributaries of the Lot river, are the main watercourses that cross the town. Developed around a Gallo-Roman relay, Campagnac was a stopover that linked Rodez to Gévaudan.

This commune is rich in a remarkable and typical heritage of the Causses region.
On the Place de la Parabond, carved in the limestone of the Causse, a rare complete series of Grain measures from the 18th century are proof of a place of commercial exchange. “La Place” recalls the commercial activity that the city experienced through its road position and an “official” market born in 1802.

Territory very fertile in grain and hay, it nevertheless remains a very considerable cadis factory. Canvases were then manufactured there and a large quantity of cotton was spun.
The beautiful residences of the 18th century also bear witness to a rich economic activity.

In Canac, hamlet of Campagnac, the Romanesque church, from the 11th and 12th centuries, is classified as a historic monument.

To the east of the village, the Holy Sepulcher or Capélette is a small chapel from the 18th century. It rises on a Caussenard promontory above the Lot Valley and Aubrac from where you can enjoy a magnificent panorama.

Once a place of pilgrimage, various legends are attached to this place such as a place of expiation for thieves or a pagan site dedicated to death... Named by the inhabitants of Campagnac Notre-Dame-des-Buis, it is also a meeting place for lovers. This grandiose site was also a place of devotional pilgrimage to grant wishes, such as the healing of eye diseases.

For this final stage of the 2024 edition, it is an itinerary with varied landscapes and superb panoramas over the areas of Aubrac, the Lot valley and the Causse.

The Discovery Hiking Route will cover new routes and a new loop to help you discover another vision of the territory.

A fantastic immersion on the causse, a vast limestone plateau marked by the agropastoral tradition, whose moors and pastures form a landscape like no other. We will ride the last kilometers in the country where the horse is King.
